Imbuko Wines

Established in March 2004 our roots are firmly entrenched on the Du Plessis family farm, Uitkyk, near Wellington, based in the heart of the renowned Cape Winelands. Co-founder and Managing Director Theunis van Zyl have been part of the wine industry for 20 years.

..one of a few farms that cultivate rootstock, not only for own use, but for the whole of the South African wine industry.

Imbuko, meaning “Admiration for...” in Xhosa, serves as one of South Africa’s eleven official languages and is also the native tongue of our most famous citizen, Mr Nelson Mandela.

The Company has developed from its humble roots as a bulk wine supplier to a company offering a full wine service. Imbuko currently services a range of brands, not only our own, but also those of our clients whom we consider as family to our own portfolio.

For Imbuko, wine is not just made and sold. In our business, our wine products is the result of a considered and co-operative approach where the customer “is still king” and where we deliver the best possible products in line with customer preference.

What further sets Imbuko apart is the fact that our office and facilities are situated on Uitkyk Farm, one of a few farms that cultivate rootstock, not only for own use, but for the whole of the South African wine industry. Thus, the Imbuko portfolio can boast the winemakers hand from rootstock to the vine and from the vine to the wine.

In order to supplement the complexity of the portfolio, wines are sourced and blended not only from the Wellington farm, but also from the most prominent – and vastly different – wine regions of the Western Cape: Stellenbosch, Paarl, Tulbagh and the Breede River Valley. Giving Imbuko access to an extensive range of wines, each with its own unique style, ensuring continued availability. Imbuko’s dedicated winemaking team ensures continued consistency is delivered in the taste profile across the ranges.

For us at Imbuko and in the true spirit of ‘ubunthu, our business is based on developing long term relationships with our clients. We are successful because we offer our clients quality, loyalty and integrity and do receive the same in return.
